CL2005A and CL2010A USB 3.0 active extension cables not connecting or not extending the devices.

2 min read

There are two variations of the Active extension cables, the 5m and the 10m USB 3.0 extension cables.  These cables are designed to extend devices such as VC cameras, Visualizers or devices that require power form the pc / device it is connected to.

There are two indicator lights on the cables, a link and a power indicator.  If the power indicator is lit but not the link your device should not function.  To remedy this, please see possible solutions below:

  1. This means that the USB port connected to is most like a USB2.0 port that does not have the sufficient voltage to push through the extension.  The cable needs to be connected to a USB 3.0 port for sufficient voltage to be pushed through.
  2. The 5m Extension cable should not require additional power that can be supplied via a 5volt charger and USB A to USB mini cable.  This allows an additional power boost for the extension
  3. The 10m extension cable is slightly different, if connected to the correct USB port and device it will have enough current to allow the cable to function as planned.  If this is not the case there are two link boxes on the cable. The one closest to the device has a USB mini port which can the take the 5volt charger and cable to boost the power for the device.
  4. Check the direction of you cable.  The USB A male port needs to be connected to the pc / device that your input needs to be.  The female USB A is to the device that you wish to use such as the VC camera etc.

Devices that are self-powered such as VC cameras that have their own power connects quite easily using either one of the two above mentioned cables as it also has its own power source.
